How long is the process from beginning to end?
From our pre-interview process to the film date and the editing and delivery of your film will take three to five months. This will vary depending on your schedule and the length of the film.
How do we prepare for our Family Legacies film?
Family Legacies’ professional interviewer meets with you in advance either in person or on Zoom to guide you in an introspective pre-interview process of determining the stories, values, and words of wisdom you want to share with present or future generations in your family. This also serves as a dress rehearsal for the film date.
How do you come up with the interview questions?
All questions are custom designed for you and are significant to your life. Our pre-interview process helps us to determine the questions we’ll ask for the film date.
Do I need to memorize my answers?
Memorization is not necessary and in fact, is discouraged. We want you to speak naturally. The Family Legacies interviewer will guide you through the questions and answers. Because it will be edited afterward, you can stop and start, and restate answers as needed.
How much time does the pre-interview process take?
The pre-interview process might take a full day or two, depending on the length of the final film. Because this process gets your wheels turning with ideas, it may continue over the phone as new ideas come up.
Do you have films of different lengths to choose from?
We have five different packages that can be modified or mixed and matched to meet your needs as follows:
- Ethical Will: Your values, life lessons, family vision, and/or future of your family foundation: 20-minute film (final product, after editing)
- Short film: A short film of the most important stories of your life: 45-minute film (final product, after editing)
- *MOST POPULAR: Feature Film: A feature-length film about your family history, life stories, values, and ethical will: 1.5 hours (final product, after editing)
- Mini-series: The biography of your life, your family history, or your extended family in chapters: up to 6 hours (final product, after editing)
How much will a Family Legacies film cost?
The cost of a Family Legacies film depends on a variety of factors:
- How many people will we be filming? Will it be just the family matriarch and or patriarch or will children, grandchildren, siblings, or cousins be in the film?
- How long would you like the final product to be? Would you like a shorter ethical will or a full-length film?
- Would you like more than one length – for example, a Feature length film and a shorter 20-minute version to show on special occasions?
- Will Family Legacies’ interviewer be asking the questions, or would you like us to train and direct children and/or grandchildren to ask the questions?
- Would you like us to film in one location or multiple locations such as places of business?
- Do you require drone footage of your properties or businesses?

THE FILM DATE:
Where will we film?
We usually film in your home, office, or both, and can also include filming in other locations that are meaningful to your family.
How long will we film?
The length of time spent filming depends on how long you want the final product to be as well as your schedule. It can be a few hours to a few days.
What kind of equipment do you use to film?
We film in Hollywood standards of 4K and 6K, using broadcast-quality microphones and lighting.
How large are your film crews?
Our film crews vary in size, depending on how many family members we will be filming at once. They include makeup artists and hairstylists, camera operators, sound engineers, and lighting technicians.
What should I wear?
We encourage you to dress in whatever manner feels authentic to you. Some people prefer to be more casual, while others like to dress in a more formal manner. If you will be filmed together with others, we recommend solid colors to avoid clashing.
Who on your team conducts the interviews?
Susan Brody, Family Legacies President, and Executive Producer personally conducts the interviews. She will expertly and compassionately guide you through the stories of your life.
Will the interview questions be in the final product?
All interview questions will be removed in the editing. The final video will appear to be a “free-flowing” conversation. In some cases, we train children and/or grandchildren to ask some questions and we leave those questions in the final video.

How long with the final product be?

Will I get to see a draft of the film before it’s finalized?
We will send you a draft of the film to preview and give comments before the film is finalized.
How will I receive the final film?
We will provide you with the final product in the format of your choice. This can be a digital downloadable video file, a password-protected webpage, and/or professionally custom-designed Blu-ray discs or DVDs.
